THE NAME OF YOUR MEDICINE IS ALIAX ORAL SUSPENSION 75/1000 What is Ailax Oral Suspension 75/1000?

Ailax Oral Suspension 75/1000 is one of a group of medicines called laxatives.

Each 5 ml spoonful of Ailax Oral Suspension 75/1000 contains 75 mg dantron and 1000 mg of poloxamer 188.

Ailax Oral Suspension 75/1000 is a peach flavoured suspension and contains sodium hydroxybenzoates, saccharin sodium, glycerol, propylene glycol, carbomer, ethanol, sodium hydroxide, peach flavour and water. It is available in bottles of 50 ml, 140 ml, 200 ml, 300 ml, 500 ml, and 1 litre.

The marketing authorisation holder is Pinewood Laboratories Limited, Ballymacarbry, Clonmel, Co.Tipperary, Ireland.

WHAT DOES AILAX ORAL SUSPENSION 75/1000 DO?

Ailax Oral Suspension 75/1000 is used to treat constipation.

BEFORE TAKING YOUR MEDICINE

This medicine is usually only given to patients with certain illnesses.

If you are unsure about whether this medicine is suitable for you, it is important to talk to your doctor.

Also ask yourself the following questions:

-    Do I suffer from any bowel obstruction?

-    Am I pregnant or breast feeding?

If the answer to either of the questions is YES, tell your doctor before taking Ailax Oral Suspension 75/1000. You should NOT take this medicine if you suffer from any bowel obstruction or if you are breast feeding.

Note: each 5 ml of Ailax Oral Suspension 75/1000 contains 4.93 mg of sodium.

TAKING YOUR MEDICINE


How much should I take and how often?

This product should be taken orally. The usual dose of Ailax Oral Suspension 75/1000 for adults is one or two 5 ml spoonfuls at bedtime.

Ailax Oral Suspension 75/1000 is not recommended for children under 12 years.

Doctors may prescribe different doses to these. It is important to read the label on your bottles as it will tell you exactly what dose to take.

What should I do it I forget to take a dose?

It is important to follow the dose recommended on the label. If you accidentally take too much of your medicine, contact your doctor who will recommend what steps to take.

What should I do if I forget to take a dose?

If you forgot to take you medicine at bedtime, leave out the dose completely. Take your next dose the following night at bedtime and then continue as before.

AFTER TAKING THE MEDICINE

Are there any side effects?

Some patients may find that this medicine gives them stomach pains, diarrhoea or less control over their bowels. It may also colour urine pink or red, or may cause some irritation, peeling or staining of the skin around the anus. Taking this medicine for many years may stop bowels working normally.

Tell your doctor about any unusual problems immediately.

STORING YOUR MEDICINE How should I store Ailax Oral Suspension 75/1000?

Keep the medicine at room temperature (below 25oC), in a safe place where children cannot reach it.

Do not use after expiry date shown on the bottle.

If your doctor tells you to stop the treatment, return any leftover medicine to the pharmacist. Only keep it if your doctor tells you to.

Remember - as with all medicines do NOT share with any other person.
