1. WHAT ANABACT 0.75% w/w GEL IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR


Anabact 0.75% w/w Gel is a clear, pale yellow gel for application to the skin. Anabact 0.75% w/w Gel contains metronidazole which is an antibiotic. It is effective against the bacteria which cause the bad smell in infected tumours and ulcers.

2. BEFORE YOU USE ANABACT 0.75% w/w GEL


Do not use Anabact 0.75% w/w Gel if you

•    are allergic (hypersensitive) to metronidazole or any of the other ingredients of Anabact 0.75% w/w Gel (see section 6).

Take special care with Anabact 0.75% w/w Gel

Avoid strong sunlight as metronidazole is not stable under ultra-violet light.

Do not use Anabact 0.75% w/w Gel near or in your eyes. If the gel does get into your eyes, rinse carefully with water.

Taking other medicines

Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. Special care should be taken if you are taking:

•    anti-coagulant medicines, such as warfarin

•    anti-epileptic medicines, such as phenobarbital

Metronidazole taken by mouth can react with alcohol but this effect has never been reported with metronidazole applied to the skin. Such an effect is extremely unlikely as the amount of metronidazole entering the blood through the skin is very small.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

Do not use Anabact 0.75% w/w Gel if you are pregnant, think that you may be pregnant or if you are breast-feeding. Please ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.

Important information about some of the ingredients of Anabact 0.75% w/w Gel

Anabact 0.75% w/w Gel contains Bronopol which can cause local skin reactions such as contact dermatitis, and propylene glycol which may cause skin irritation.

3. HOW TO USE ANABACT 0.75% w/w GEL

Always use Anabact 0.75% w/w Gel exa ctly as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor o5 pharmacist if you are not surd.


Anabact 0.75% w/w Gel should not be used on children under the age of 12 years.

Usual Dose

Anabact 0.75% w/wGel i s for external use only.

Forthe deodorisation ofthe smeN associated with infected tumours and ulcers, clean the wound thoroughly.

Applythe gel overthe complete area and coverwith a non-adherent dressing.

Use once ortwice daily untNthe smeN has disappeared.

If you forget to use Anabact 0.75%w/wGel

If you forget to apply Anabact 0.75% w/w Gel, do so as soon as you remember and then go on as bbeefoforree..

If accidently swallowed, contact your nearest hospital casualty department or tell your doctor im mediately.

Keep using your medicine until your doctor tells you to stop.

4.    POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS

Like all medicines, Anabact 0.75% w/w Gel can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them .

If you experience persistent irritation or burning of the skin or any unusual effects, stop using the

•    Dryness of the skin

•    Stinging

•    Irritation

If necessary, remove medication by washing with warm water.

These measures will help to protect the environment.

Anabact 0.75% w/w Gel comes in aluminium tubes containing 15g or 30g clear, pale yellow gel.
