1.    WHAT THIS PRODUCT IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR

Napiers Herbal Cold and Flu Away is a traditional herbal medicinal product containing extracts of Elder flower, Bayberry bark and Hemlock Spruce For full details see Section 6.

Napiers Herbal Cold and Flu Away is a traditional herbal medicinal product used to relieve the symptoms of cold and flu, sore throats and chills, based on traditional use only.

2.    BEFORE YOU TAKE THIS PRODUCT

Do not take this product if you:

•    are under 12 years old or elderly

•    are pregnant or breastfeeding

•    are allergic to any of the ingredients

•    if you are taking medicines known to interact with alcohol e.g. metronidazole

Important information about some of the ingredients in this medicine

This product contains 5% v/v ethanol (alcohol), i.e. up to 400 mg per 10 ml dose, equivalent to 10 ml beer or 4.2 ml wine. Harmful for people suffering from alcoholism or liver-disease. If you are in a high risk group (patients with liver disease or epilepsy) you should consider the alcohol content before taking this product.

This product contains 4.76 g of sucrose per 10 ml dose. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicinal product.

Driving and using machines

This product contains ethanol (alcohol) and may affect your ability to drive or use machines. If affected do not drive or use machines.

3. HOW TO TAKE THIS PRODUCT

For oral use only.

Adults, elderly and children (over 12 years old):

Two 5 ml teaspoonfuls in a third of a cup of warm or hot water three times a day.

Do not take this medicine for more than 7 days.

Do not exceed the stated dose.

If you have difficulty breathing, fever or blood in your saliva, speak to your doctor or qualified healthcare practitioner.

If your symptoms worsen or persist for more than 7 days during the use of this medicinal product, speak to your doctor, pharmacist or qualified healthcare practitioner.

If you take too much (overdose).

If you take more than the recommended dose, speak to a doctor, pharmacist or qualified healthcare practitioner and take this leaflet with you.

An overdose of this products may result in alcohol intoxication. The amount of alcohol in a full bottle (4 g in 100 ml, 6 g in 150 ml, 8 g in 200 ml: equivalent to 0.16, 0.25 or 0.33 large glasses of wine respectively) may result in intoxication and should be treated accordingly.(See Section 2).


If you forget to take this product

Continue to take your usual dose at the usual time. Do not take a double dose. It does not matter if you miss a dose.

4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS

No side effects have been reported with this product.

If you notice any side effects, please tell your doctor, pharmacist or qualified healthcare practitioner.

5.    HOW TO STORE THIS PRODUCT

Do not use this product after the expiry date. The expiry date is printed on the label and on the bottom of the carton.

Do not store above 25°C. Store in the original container.

There are no special precautions for disposal.

Keep this product out of the reach and sight of children.

Each 5 ml contains:

0.1 ml of extract (as liquid extract) from Elder flowers (Sambucus nigra. L.) (1:1) Extraction solvent: Water

0.05 ml of extract (as liquid extract) from Bayberry bark (Myrica cerifera L.) (1:1) Extraction solvent: Ethanol 45 % v/v

0.1 ml of extract (as liquid extract) from Hemlock Spruce (Tsuga canadensis Carr.) (1:1) Extraction solvent: Ethanol 45% v/v

Also contains Peppermint oil, Cassia oil, Pimento oil, Clove oil, stronger Capsicum tincture (ethanol, water, capsicum), stronger Ginger tincture (ethanol, ginger root), Capsicum oleoresin, ethanol, syrup (sucrose), Acacia powder, Beetroot powder (E162), caramel (E150a), Viscarin (carrageenan (E407), glucose (dextrose)) and water.

What is Elder flower?

Elder is a woody shrub-like tree indigenous to the British Isles, known for its fragrant flowers and berries. An extract from the flowers of Elder are used in this medicine.

What is Bayberry bark?

Bayberry is a small tree native to the eastern North America and also sometimes called wax myrtle. An extract from the root bark is used in this medicine.

What is Hemlock Spruce?

Hemlock Spruce, also known as eastern spruce, is a member of the pine tree family native to Canada and North America. An extract from the bark is used in making this herbal medicine.
