1.    WHAT THIS PRODUCT IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR

Napiers Herbease Indigestion Tablets is a traditional herbal medicinal product containing Ginger rhizome, Capsicum fruit and Gentian root extract. For full details see Section 6.

Napiers Herbease Indigestion Tablets is a traditional herbal medicinal product used for the symptomatic relief of indigestion, based on traditional use only.

2.    BEFORE YOU TAKE THIS PRODUCT

Do not take this product if you:

•    are under 18 years old

•    are pregnant or breastfeeding

•    are allergic to any of the ingredients

•    have peptic or duodenal ulcer

•    have obstruction of the bile duct, cholangitis (inflammation of the bile duct) or galls stones


Important information about some of the ingredients in this medicine

This product contains 9.5 mg of sucrose per tablet. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicinal product.

Taking other medicines:

Ginger may increase the risk of bleeding Tell your doctor before taking this medicine if you are taking:

-    Anti coagulant (blood thinning) medicines such as warfarin, or heparin,

-    antiplatelet medicines such as clopidogrel,

-    non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen.

Tell your doctor before taking this medicine if you are taking any other medicines, including any bought with a prescription.

Driving and using machines:

In some cases patients have experienced drowsiness while taking ginger. Affected patients should not drive or operate machines.


3. HOW TO TAKE THIS PRODUCT

For oral use only.

Adults and the elderly:

One or two tablets night and morning, after meals.

Do not exceed the stated dose.

If your symptoms worsen or do not improve after one week, speak to your doctor, pharmacist or qualified healthcare practitioner.

The product should be discontinued at least 2 weeks prior to planned surgery due to the possible increased risk of bleeding and as it may affect other medicines used during surgery.

If you take too much (overdose).

If you take more than the recommended dose, speak to a doctor, pharmacist or qualified healthcare practitioner and take this leaflet with you.

If you forget to take this product

Continue to take your usual dose at the usual time. Do not take a double dose. It does not matter if you miss a dose.


If you have any questions, or are unsure of anything, please speak to your doctor, pharmacist or qualified healthcare practitioner.

4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS

Minor gastrointestinal complaints, particularly stomach upset, burping, wind, feeling full and nausea have been reported with Ginger.

Drowsiness has also been reported. Gastrointestinal symptoms have been reported with Gentian root. The frequency was uncommon.

In rare cases, faster heartbeat and itching have been reported. Headache may occur. The frequency is not known.

If other adverse reaction not mentioned above occurs, a doctor or qualified health care practitioner should be consulted.

5.    HOW TO STORE THIS PRODUCT

Do not use this product after the expiry date. The expiry date is printed on the label and on the bottom of the carton.

Do not store above 25°C. Store in the original container.

There are no special precautions for disposal.

Keep this product out of the reach and sight of children.

6.    FURTHER INFORMATION

Each tablet contains:

25 mg of Ginger rhizome (Zingiber officinale Roscoe)

25 mg of Capsicum fruit (Capsicum frutescens L.)

3.75 mg of dry extract Gentian root (Gentiana lutea L.) (2:1) (equivalent to 7 mg Gentian root).

Extraction solvent: Water.

Each tablet also contains Myrrh Cajaput oil, magnesium carbonate calcium hydrogen phosphate, Acacia, sucrose pre-Gelatinised starch, magnesium stearate, shellac, kaolin light, Beetroot powder, talc and water.

This product comes in containers of 100 pink round tablets.

Yellow Gentian is a wildflower native to the mountains of central and southern Europe. An extract from the bitter root is used in this medicine.
