1.    WHAT THIS PRODUCT IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR

Napiers Herbal Heartburn Relief is a

traditional herbal medicinal product containing Ginger rhizome, Valerian root, Myrrh resin and extracts of Milk Thistle fruits, Holy Thistle herb and Dandelion root. For full details see Section 6.

Napiers Herbal Heartburn Relief is a

traditional herbal medicinal product used for the relief of heartburn, stomach ache, indigestion, flatulence and dyspepsia, based on traditional use only.

2.    BEFORE YOU TAKE THIS PRODUCT

Do not take this product if you:

•    are under 18 years old

•    are pregnant or breastfeeding

•    are allergic to any of the ingredients or to plants of the Asteraceae (Compositae) family

•    have peptic or duodenal ulcer

•    have kidney or heart problems or diabetes

•    are taking any medicines that make you feel sleepy

•    have liver disease

•    have obstruction or diseases of the bile duct, cholangitis (inflammation of the bile duct) or gall stones


Important information about some of the ingredients in this medicine

This product contains 9.5 mg of sucrose per tablet. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicinal product.

The effect of Valerian may be potentiated by alcohol. Excessive simultaneous consumption of alcohol should therefore be avoided.

The product should be discontinued at least 2 weeks prior to planned surgery due to the possible increased risk of bleeding and may affect other medicines used during surgery.

Taking other medicines:

Ginger may increase the risk of bleeding when taken with drugs that affect: coagulation and bleeding e.g. aspirin, anticoagulants such as warfarin, phenprocoumon, heparin, antiplatelet drugs such as clopidogrel

non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAIDs) drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen.

Tell your doctor before taking this medicine if you are taking any of the above medicines or any other medicines, including any bought with a prescription.

Driving and using machines:

In some cases patients have experienced drowsiness while taking ginger. Affected patients should not drive or operate machines._

3. HOW TO TAKE THIS PRODUCT

For oral use only.

Adults and the elderly:

One or two tablets to be taking after meals three times a day.

Do not exceed the stated dose.

If your symptoms worsen or do not improve after one week, speak to your doctor, pharmacist or qualified healthcare practitioner.


If you take too much (overdose).

If you take more than the recommended dose, speak to a doctor, pharmacist or qualified healthcare practitioner and take this leaflet with you.

If you forget to take this product

Continue to take your usual dose at the usual time. Do not take a double dose. It does not matter if you miss a dose.

If you have any questions, or are unsure of anything, please speak to your doctor, pharmacist or qualified healthcare practitioner.


4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS

Minor gastrointestinal complaints, particularly stomach upset, burping, wind, feeling full and nausea have been reported with Ginger and nausea and abdominal cramps have been reported with Valerian root.

Stomach pain and excess stomach acid may occur with dandelion root. Allergic reactions may occur. The frequency is not known.

Allergic skin reactions have been reported with myrrh. The frequency is not known.

Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, upset stomach and diarrhoea, headache, allergic reactions such as hives, skin rash, itching and difficulty breathing have been reported with milk thistle. The frequency is not known.

If other adverse reactions not mentioned above occur, a doctor or qualified health care practitioner should be consulted.

Each tablet also contains sucrose, sodium starch glycolate, talc, magnesium stearate, Spearmint oil, kaolin light, sucrose syrup, Beetroot powder, Gum Arabic and Maltodextrin.

This product comes in containers of 100 pink round tablets.

Ginger is best known as a culinary spice, native to Asia and now grown worldwide. An extract from the spicy root is used in this medicine.

What is Milk Thistle?

Milk Thistle is a wild thistle, native to the Mediterranean and cultivated in Britain since the Middle Ages. An extract from the fruit is used in this medicine.

What is Holy Thistle?

Holy or Blessed Thistle is a wild thistle, native to the Mediterranean and cultivated in Britain since the Middle Ages. An extract from the whole herb is used in this medicine.

What is Valerian root?

Valerian is a herb and wildflower that is native to the British Isles. An extract from the root is used in this medicine.

What is Dandelion root?

Dandelions are common all over Europe, noted for their cheerful yellow flowers in Spring and Summer. An extract from the bitter root is used in this medicine.
