Slowly add 60ml of water. Replace cap and shake well.

Use within 10 days of dispensing.

Keep at 2°C - 8“C in a refrigerator. Shake well before use.

Taking more than this dose is unlikely to be dangerous unless a lot of the syrup is taken at once. In that case, dont delay; askyour doctor what to do or contact your nearest hospital emergency department

•    After starting to take your Ceporex synip

BE SURE TO TAKE THE MEDICINE UNTIL IT HAS ALL GONE. DONT JUST STOP BECAUSE YOU FEEL BETTER; THE MEDICINE MAY NOT HAVE KILLED ALL THE GERMS AND YOU MAY START TO FEEL UNWELL AGAIN.

•    Side effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause unwanted effects. Most people taking this medicine find it causes no problems. As with other antibiotics, some people find they have an allergy to iL Contact your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Sudden wheezing or difficulty breathing.

Skin rash (red spots).

Swelling of eyelids, face or lips.

Skin lumps or hives (raised, red or white, itchy patches of skin).

Check with your doctor as soon as possMe if any of the following side effects occur Feeling sick (nausea) or being sick (vomiting).

Diarrhoea.

Very rarely this medicine may lower the levels of certain blood cells, these will return to normal when you stop taking Ceporex


Other very rare side effects include severe skin reactions, inflammation of the kidneys which may give a feeling of lower back pain, and pseudomembranous colitis which can cause diarrhoea that is bloody with strong stomach pains. As with other antibiotics after long courses of treatment, vaginal thrush can occur, which can cause irritation and redness of the female genitals.

If you feel unwell or have any unusual discomfort you don’t understand, tell your doctor as soon as possible.

H you have any blood or urine tests, remind your doctor you are taking Ceporex syrup.

•    If you don’t get better

If you have completed your cotise of Ceporex syrup, and you do not feel better TELL YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

•    Where to keep yow Ceporex syrup

Your Ceporex will have already been made up by the pharmacist before it was given to you. Store the made up syrup at 2°C-8°C in a refrigerator.

Once dispensed by your pharmacist, the syrup will only keep for 10 days. Any syrup remaining after this time should be given back to you pharmacist for safe disposal.

The pack should not be dispensed after the expiry date printed on the label.

If for any reason you have been given Ceporex still in its granule form, it should be stored at room temperature (below 25°C).

As with all medicines, keep Ceporex syrup safely away from children, where they cannot see or


reach it.

•    What to do with any uiused syrup

If your doctor steps your treatment, return any unused medicine to your pharmacist tor safe disposal.

•    Remember

This medicine is for YOU. Only a doctor or dentist can prescribe it for you. Never give it to someone else. It may harm them even if their symptoms are the same as yours.

•    What your Ceporex syrup contafos

When made up with water, each 5ml spoonful contains:

The active ingredient - cefalexin 125mg.

Other ingredients - sucrose, acacia powder, citric acid, sodium citrate, sodium calcium edetate, sunset yellow colouring (E110) and orange bramble flavouring.

Ceporex Syrup is prepared (usually done by your pharmacist) by adding water to the granules to give an orarge-flavoured and coloured suspension.

Each bottle contains granules to make 100ml of synip.

•    What your Ceporex syrup does

Ceporex syrup contains cefalexin which is an antibiotic belonging to the cephalosporin class. Antibiotics are used to kill the bacteria or'germs"which cause infections. Ceporex syrup is used to treat infections of the chest, ear, nose, throat, urinary systems, bone, flesh and skin. Genital infections, e.g. gononheoa and those resulting from childbirth, are also treated with Ceporex. Your doctor has prescribed this medicine because he has found that you have one of these infections,

You may also be prescribed Ceporex by your dentist to treat denial infections, or if you have heart disease you may be given this medicine before a more complicated dental procedure to prevent further heart problems.

•    Before you take your medicine

This medicine suits most people but there are some people who should not take it. Ask yourself these questions to check whether Ceporex is right for you.

■ Have you been told you are allergic to cefalexin, any of the other ingredients in Ceporex or fe any other antibiotics e.g. penicillin? Ceporex Syrup contains sunset yellow colouring (E110) which may cause an allergic reaction including asthma, although this allergy is more common in people allergic to aspirin.

- Are you diabetic or do you have a sugar intolerance (hereditary fructose intolerance,


glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome, or

sucrose4somattase deficiency)? Ceporex 125mg contains 2.980g of sucrose

per 5ml of suspension.

-    Do you think you may be pregnant?

-Are you breast-feeding?

-    Have you been told your kidneys are not working as well as they should?

-    Are you taking diuretic “water" tablets?

-    Are you taking any other antibiotics?

If you answer “YES' to any of these questions, check with your doctor first BEFORE you take any of your syrup.

Even so, your doctor may still want you to take the syrup. For example, if you are allergic to penicillin your doctor may decide that you can safely take this sort of antibiotic.

If you need to test your urine for sugar, please note that this mediciie can give a false positive result with certain methods. Your pharmacist can give you more advice on this.

• How to take your Ceporex syrup

Look at the label- it should say WHO should taka iL HOW MANY 5ml spoonfuls and WHEN.

If it does not say all this or you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist. If prescribed for a CHILD, make sure the medicine is taken as the label says.


Use the 5ml spoon that the pharmacist has given you to measure the amount of medicine to take. It is best to take the syrup as it is. Do NOT add water or other drinks to the bottle, that may stop it working property.

The usual doses fe be token by mouth are as fellows: adults and children over 12 years of age ■ 1g (lOOQmg) twice daily, children 7 to 12 years ■ 500mg to 1g twice daily, children 1 to 6 years - 250mg to 500mg twice daily, children less than 1 year - 62.5mg to 125mg twice daily.

Your dose, number of times a day, and length of time you need to take the medicine varies depending on your infection. It is important therefore, that you fellow the instructions on the label carefully.

If you have kidney disease, your dose may be lowered.

If you are receiving intermittent dialysis, you should be given an additional dose of Ceporex syrup after each dialysis.

•    What to do If you miss a dose

If you forget to take a dose, it is important to take another as soon as you remember. Then go on as before.

•    What to do if you take too much synip

It is important to stick to the dose on the label of your medicine.
