Bell's Codeine Linctus BP is taken to relieve dry, unproductive coughs.


Take special care if: You are elderly, have any disease of the lungs or kidneys or have a history of drug abuse.

Codeine may interact with other medicines; take care with other narcotic painkillers, mexiletine, monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) antidepressant, domperidone and metodopramide.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

Do not take codeine while you are breast-feeding. Codeine and morphine passes into breast milk.

(Codeine Phosphate 15mg per 5ml)

For the relief

of dry unproductive coughs 200ml

Liquid for oral use.

AdultsiTake one or two 5ml spoonfuls (5ml to 10ml).

The above dose may be taken up to 4 times daily.

Do not give to children under 18 years.

Contact doctor or hospital immediately if you have taken too much.

Do not use if: you are allergic to codeine or any of the other ingredients; you know that you metabolise very rapidly codeine into morphine; you are breastfeeding; you have liver disease, shallow or slow breathing or obstruction of your airways.

Codeine is transformed to morphine in the liver by an enzyme. Morphine is the substance that produces pain relief. Some people have a variation of this enzyme and this can affect people in different ways. In some people, morphine is not produced or produced in very smal quantities, and it will not provide enough pain relief. Other people are more likely to get serious side effects because a very high amount of morphine is produced. If you notice any of the following side effects, you must stop taking this medicine and seek immediate medical advice: slow or shalow breathing, confusion, sleepiness, small pupils, feeling or being sick, constipation, lack of appetite.

If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before using this medicinal product. Contains 4g of sucrose per 5ml dose and this should be taken into account in patients with diabetes mellitus. This medicinal product contains 2 vol% ethanol (alcohol), i.e. up to 156mg per 10ml dose, equivalent to 4m| of beer or 1,6ml of wine per 10ml dose. Harmful for those suffering from alcoholism.To be taken into account in pregnant or breast-feeding women, and high-risk groups such as patients with liver disease, or epilepsy. Contains El 10 - may cause allergic reactions. Contains E219-may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed)

Sodium Methyl hydroxybenzoate E219 and Purified Water.

May cause dependency. Some people may experience dizziness, feeling sick or constipation.

May cause slow or shallow breathing if taken in large doses. If you notice these or any other side effects, stop using the product and consult your doctor.
