COMPOUND THYMOL GLYCERIN B.P. 1988 (thymol and glycerol)

Read all of this leaflet carefully before you start using this medicine because it contains important information for you.

Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist have told you.

1.    WHAT COMPOUND THYMOL GLYCERIN IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR

The active ingredients in this medicine are thymol 0.05% w/v and glycerol 10.0% v/v.

This medicine has a disinfectant action and is used as a mouthwash and gargle to freshen the mouth.

2.    WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU USE THIS MEDICINE Do NOT use:

•    if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to the active ingredients or to any of the other ingredients (listed in Section 6).

Warnings and precautions

•    Do not swallow.

•    Discard any unused diluted solution

Other medicines and Compound Thymol Glycerin

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.

This medicine contains sodium benzoate (E211) which may be mildly irritant to the skin, eyes or mucous membranes.

3.    HOW TO USE THIS MEDICINE

For use as a mouthwash or gargle only

Adults, the elderly and children:

Dilute one part of the medicine with three parts of warm water and use immediately as a mouthwash or gargle. Do not swallow.

Discard any unused diluted solution

If symptoms persist talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

If the product is accidentally swallowed see your doctor immediately or go to your nearest hospital casualty department. Take the product with you so that it can be identified.

4.    POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS

Like all medicines, Compound Thymol Glycerin can cause side effects although not everybody gets them.

This medicine may cause stomach discomfort or skin rashes.

5.    HOW TO STORE THIS MEDICINE

•    Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

•    Do not store above 25°C.

•    Do not use after the expiry date on the label. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.

6.    CONTENTS OF THE PACK AND 0THER INFORMATION What Compound Thymol Glycerin contains:

The active ingredients are thymol 0.05% w/v and glycerol 10.0% v/v.

The other ingredients are carmine, sodium metabisulphite (E223), sodium benzoate (E211), strong ammonia solution, ethanol 96%, borax, sodium bicarbonate, sodium salicylate, menthol, cineole, pumilio pine oil, methyl salicylate and water.

What Compound Thymol Glycerin looks like and contents of the pack:

It is a red to mauve-red clear liquid, available as 200 ml or 300 ml amber glass bottles and dispensing packs of 500 ml, 1000 ml or 2000 ml in amber glass bottles. Not all packs may be marketed.
