VERRUCA TREATMENT

Paste containing 50% salicylic acid

1 .WHAT VERRUCA TREATMENT IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR

Verruca treatment is a paste which is applied to the skin, containing the active ingredient salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is a kerolytic agent, which causes skin cells to shed more easily. When applied to a plantar wart (verruca) salicylic acid causes the cells to shed and kills the wart.

Verruca treatment is used to:

•    Destroy plantar warts

2. BEFORE YOU USE VERRUCA TREATMENT

You should not use Verruca treatment if you:

•    are allergic to the active substance salicylic acid, or any other ingredients of Verruca treatment (see list of ingredients in Section 6).

•    are diabetic

Take special care with Verruca treatment and consult your doctor or state registered chiropodist if:

•    you get painful irritation which may cause dermatitis (stop use)

•    the verruca does not separate from the surrounding skin after two weeks

•    your verruca is larger than the protective ring pads or is an irregular shape (do not use)

Keep away from the eyes and wash your hands immediately after use. If the paste comes into contact with healthy skin or the eyes, flush with cold water straight away.

Make sure this product is suitable for you to use -ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

There are no known effects during pregnancy or while breast-feeding following use of this product. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.

Driving and using machines

Verruca treatment is not known to affect driving or operating machinery.

3. HOW YOU USE VERRUCA TREATMENT

Verruca treatment is applied to the skin.

Dosage

Adults, the elderly and children:

Clean the surrounding area with soap or surgical spirit using cotton wool or a piece of clean material, which should be carefully disposed of after use.

Apply a protective ring pad centrally over the verruca and place a small amount of the paste into the centre hole of the ring. Cover with a plaster and leave in place for 2-3 days. Repeat until the verruca separates from the surrounding skin or up to two weeks.

If you use more Verruca treatment than you should or if a child has swallowed the paste

Seek medical attention immediately.

4.    POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS

Like all medicines, Verruca treatment can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. All medicines can cause allergic reactions, although serious allergic reactions are very rare. Tell your doctor straight away if you get any sudden wheeziness, difficulty in breathing, swelling of the eyelids, face or lips, rash or itching (especially affecting your whole body).

The following side effects have also been reported:

• dermatitis (inflammation of the skin)

Symptoms of poisoning have been reported after salicylic acid ointments and solutions have been applied to large areas of the body. This is unlikely to happen when treating verrucas.

5.    HOW TO STORE VERRUCA TREATMENT

Verruca treatment should be kept out of the reach and sight of children.

Do not use Verruca treatment after the expiry date as indicated on the box after “EXP”. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month. The product has a 3 year shelf-life.

Medicine should not be disposed of in wastewater or with household garbage. Ask your pharmacist what you should do with medications you no longer need. These measures will help to protect the environment.

What Verruca treatment contains

The active substance is salicylic acid 50% w/w. The other ingredients are: white soft paraffin and liquid paraffin.

What Verruca treatment looks like and contents of the pack

Verruca treatment is available as an aluminium tube containing 5 g of salicylic acid paste.

This is packed into a carton with 6 corn rings and 6 self-adhesive plasters.
