FLETCHERS' ® ENEMETTE

What you should know about Fletchers' Enemette

This leaflet is to help the patient get the most out of Fletchers' Enemette. Please read it before you take or administer Fletchers' Enemette. If you are a nurse or doctor please ensure the patient has a copy of this leaflet.

What is in Fletchers' Enemette?

Fletchers' Enemette is a single-dose, disposable microenema containing 90mg of a medicine called docusate sodium and laxatives which act by softening the stools and improving bowel movement. Fletchers' Enemette also contains polyethylene glycol and sorbic acid.

It is available in packs of 12.

The Marketing Authorisation holder is Chemidex Pharma Ltd., Chemidex House, Egham Business Village, Crabtree Road, Egham, Surrey TW20 8RB.

The manufacturer is Forest Laboratories UK Ltd., Bourne Road, Bexley, Kent DA5 INX.

What is Fletchers' Enemette for?

Fletchers' Enemette is designed to relieve constipation. It may also be used to empty the bowels before certain medical procedures and before childbirth.

Before taking or giving Fletchers' Enemette

Fletchers' Enemette is suitable for adults and children provided they are over 3 years of age.

How to administer Fletchers' Enemette

One single-dose tube of Fletchers' Enemette should be administered as needed.

The dosage for children over 3 years of age is the same as for adults.

Fletchers' Enemette may be warmed before use by placing in warm water but do not heat to a temperature greater than 25°C (approximately 80°F).

How to administer Fletchers' Enemette (cont.)

To administer remove the cap and squeeze out a drop of liquid to lubricate the nozzle. Insert the full length of the nozzle into the rectum and squeeze the tube until all the contents are administered.

Take out while still squeezing the tube and discard the tube hygienically.

When administering to young children the nozzle should only be inserted to half its length into the rectum.

If administering Fletchers' Enemette to patients with intestinal obstruction please take extra care. Take care also not to use undue force when administering to elderly or debilitated patients or those with neurological disorders such as paraplegia or stroke.

After administering Fletchers' Enemette

There are not normally any problems with the use of Fletchers' Enemette. It is possible that prolonged use could lead to irritation of the rectum. If you think that Fletchers' Enemette is causing any unusual discomfort or problems please contact your doctor or pharmacist.

By reporting side effects you can help provide more information on the safety of this medicine.

Enemette will normally produce a response within one hour.

If there is no response do not repeat the dose but seek medical advice.

Storing Fletchers’ Enemette

Keep out of the reach and sight of children. Store below 25°C in a cool place such as a cupboard or medicine cabinet. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the tube.
