Read all of this leaflet carefully before you start taking this medicine.

•    Keep this leaflet. You may need to read it again.

•    If you have any further questions, ask your doctor, health care provider or pharmacist.

•    This medicine has been prescribed for you. Do not pass it on to others. It may harm them, even if their symptoms are the same as yours.

1.    What are Indapamide Tablets and what are they used for

This medicine is an anti-hypertensive which is used in the treatment of high blood pressure.

Indapamide is prescribed to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It can be used alone or in combination with other medicines to treat hypertension.

2.    Before you take Indapamide Tablets

Do not take Indapamide tablets if you:

•    Are allergic (hypersensitive) to Indapamide or any of the other ingredients of Indapamide tablets

•    Suffer with severe liver or kidney problems

•    Suffer with not enough Potassium in your blood (Hypokaiaemia)

•    Areachild

If you think any of these situations may apply to you, or you have any questions or doubts about taking your medicine, you should consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Take special care with Indapamide

If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or have liver or kidney disease, consult your doctor before taking your medicine. Do not take a higher dose than prescribed.

If you are taking thiazides or thiazide-related diuretics as photosensitivity may occur.

Keep out of direct sunlight while taking this medicine and for a few months after you have finished taking it. This is because your skin will become much more sensitive to the sun and may burn, tingle or severely blister if you do not take the following precautions:

•    Make sure you use high factor sun cream

•    Always wear a hat and clothes which cover your arms and legs.

Indapamide may lower potassium levels and your doctor may monitor this by means of blood tests. This may happen in patients receiving multiple treatment or in the elderly, or in those suffering from cirrhosis of the liver, with fluid retention, or from prolonged or severe diarrhoea, or hyperaldosteronism (over production of a hormone that controls sodium and potassium levels in the blood)

Blood calcium levels may need to be monitored in those patients suffering from overactivity of the parathyroid gland.

Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you suffer from gout. Indapamide may cause the blood uric acid levels to increase when treatment is commenced.

Taking other medicines

Check with your doctor if you are taking or are likely to be taking any of the following medicines

•    Diruetics (water tablets)

•    Anti-arrhythmics such as quinidine

•    Cardioglycosides (digoxin etc.)

•    Corticosteroids

•    Lithium

•    Laxatives.

Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained withouta prescription.

These tablets contain a sugar called lactose. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.

Taking Indapamide tablets with food and drink

Indapamide tablets should be swallowed with a glass of water. It is advised that the tablet be taken in the morning before breakfast.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

If you become pregnant, or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before taking your medicine.

Driving and using machines

There is no evidence that Indapamide affects your ability to drive or operate machinery. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

3. How to take Indapamide Tablets

Always take Indapamide exactly as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

The normal dosage is one tablet each day which should be swallowed with a glass of water. It is advised that the tablet be taken in the morning before breakfast. Treatment for high blood pressure is usually life-long.

Indapamide tablets are not recommended for use in children and adolescents

Elderly:

Only treat elderly patients who have normal kidney function or slightly impaired function.

In the event of an overdose, contact your doctor or nearest hospital casualty department immediately.

If you forget to take Indapamide Tablets

if you forget to take one or more doses, take another as soon as you remember and then go on as prescribed.

Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

If you stop taking Indapamide Tablets

If your treatment with Indapamide is stopped for whatever reason, you should not experience any withdrawal effects.

If you have any further questions on the use of this product, askyour doctor or pharmacist.

4. Possible Side Effects

Like all medicines, Indapamide can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Indapamide used in normal doses may cause unwanted effects in some people.

If you experience any of the following then STOP taking the medicine and contact a doctor immediately

•    Allergic reactions may occur rarely, with symptoms such as rash, itching, swelling of the face, wheeziness, shortness of breath, tightness in the chest, fever, low blood pressure and feeling dizzy particularly when standing up.

Other side effects include:

•    Muscular weakness, pains orcramps,

•    Nausea, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhoea/ constipation, dry mouth, abdominal pain,

•    Headaches,

•    Severe skin rashes,

•    Reduction in the blood level of potassium, sodium, and calcium measured by a blood test with your doctor,

•    Increased levels of glucose, uric acid or liver enzymes,

•    Palpitations and other changes in the heart rythmns,

•    Increased sensitivity to sunlight,

•    Sexual inhibition in men,

#    Sudden onset of reversible short sightedness and othervisual disturbances,

#    Signs of reduced kidney function,

#    Changes i n the blood

#    Weight loss

#    Signs of reduced liver function.

5. How to store Indapamide Tablets

Keep out of the reach and sight of children. Do not store above 25°C

If your doctor decides to stop the treatment, return any tablets left over to the pharmacist. Only keep them ifyourdoctortells you to.

Do not use indapamide tablets 2.5 mg after the expiry date which is stated on the label. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.

Do not use Indapamide tablets 2.5 mg if you notice visible signs of deterioration.

Medicines should not be disposed of via waste water or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.
