Use this medicine only on your skin.

Apply to unbroken skin only and take care to avoid sensitive skin areas.

Adults, the elderly, children and infants over 3 months: For nasal congestion, colds and catarrh: rub the

ointment onto the chest and throat as required.

Do not apply to the nostrils of infants.

For the relief of muscular pain and stiffness: rub the

ointment into the affected area as required.

If this medicine is accidentally swallowed

In the case of accidental swallowing of Jackson’s Vapour Rub by you or a child, it is important to consult a physician without delay who can provide any necessary treatment.

Do not try to induce vomiting.

Take the pack with you so that the doctor knows what you have swallowed


4. Possible side effects


1. What this medicine Is and what It Is used for


This medicine contains five active ingredients: eucalyptus oil, menthol, camphor, methyl salicylate and terpineol. They work in combination to produce a warming effect on the skin, releasing soothing vapours which ease nasal congestion (a blocked nose). When absorbed into the skin they also help to soothe and relieve muscular aches and pains.

This medicine is used to help relieve nasal congestion due to colds and catarrh. It is also used to relieve muscular pain and stiffness in backache, sciatica (irritation of the sciatic nerve causing pain down the leg), lumbago (lower back pain), fibrositis (pain, stiffness or tenderness in muscles, tendons and joints), rheumatic pain (pain, swelling, stiffness and limited movement in joints, muscles and ligaments) and other related conditions.


Like all medicines Jackson's Vapour Rub can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. In normal use, the vapour rub will just produce a warming effect on your skin. If however any of the following effects occur, stop using the product and tell your doctor or pharmacist:

•    skin rash, hives (itchy red weals)

•    red, inflamed, blistered, dry, itchy, sore or cracked skin

•    flushing

•    headache.

If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet. You can also report side effects directly via the Yellow Card Scheme at www.mhra.gov.uk/yellowcard. By reporting side effects you can help provide more information on the safety of this medicine.

Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Do not use after the expiry date shown on the carton and label.


Some people must not use this medicine.

•    Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to salicylates (e.g. aspirin) or to any of the ingredients (these are all listed in section 6).

•    Do not use on infants under 3 months of age.

Taking other medicines:

Check with your doctor before using this medicine if you are taking any of the following:

•    Warfarin (a medicine to thin the blood/prevent clotting).

Pregnancy and breastfeeding:

Check with your doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Ingredients

This ointment contains the active ingredients eucalyptus oil 5.0% w/w, menthol 2.5% w/w, camphor 2.5% w/w, methyl salicylate 5.0% w/w and terpineol 2.5% w/w. It also contains the ingredient white soft paraffin.

What the medicine looks like

The medicine is a white ointment. It is available in packs containing 35g or 50g. Both of the pack sizes may not be available.
