1.    WHAT THIS PRODUCT IS AND

WHAT IT IS USED FOR

Napiers Herbal Pile Salve is a traditional herbal medicinal product containing Pilewort soft extract, Hamamelis bark, zinc oxide and Tea Tree oil. For full details see Section 6.

Napiers Herbal Pile Salve is a traditional herbal medicinal product product used to relieve the itching and burning associated with haemorrhoids, commonly known as piles, based on traditional use only.

2.    BEFORE YOU TAKE THIS

PRODUCT

Do not use this product if you:

•    are under 18 years old

•    are pregnant or breastfeeding

•    are allergic to any of the ingredients

•    have rectal bleeding


Important information about some of the ingredients in this medicine

Each gram of this product contains 11mg of cetostearyl alcohol and 11mg of lanolin (wool fat) and may cause local skin reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis)


3. HOW TO USE THIS PRODUCT

For cutaneous use only.

Wash hands before and after use.

Adults and the Elderly:

Apply to affected area night and morning, using a finger.

If symptoms worsen or persist for more than 2 weeks, consult a doctor or a qualified health practitioner.


If you use too much (overdose).

If you accidentally apply too much ointment, it is unlikely to cause any harm.


If you forget to use this product

If you forget to use this medicine, use it as soon as you remember. Then next use this medicine at the usual time.

4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS

Allergic contact dermatitis (red rash, itching) has been reported. The frequency is not known.

If other adverse reactions occur, a doctor or a qualified health care practitioner should be consulted.

5.    HOW TO STORE THIS PRODUCT

Do not use this product after the expiry date. The expiry date is printed on the label and on the bottom of the carton.

Do not store above 50°C. Store in the original container.

There are no special precautions for disposal.

Keep this product out of the reach and sight of children.

6.    FURTHER INFORMATION

Each 50 g contains:

2.0% w/w of soft extract Pilewort herb (Ranunculus ficaria L.). Extraction solvent: Water.

2.0% w/w Hamameljs bark (Hamamelis virginiana L.)

4.1% w/w of Zinc oxide

0.2 % w/w of Tea T ree leaf oil (Melaleuca alternifolia Cheel)

Also contains hard paraffin, cetostearyl alcohol, wool alcohols (Lanolin alcohols), liquid paraffin Chlorophyll oil soluble and soft yellow paraffin.


What is Pilewort herb?

Pilewort herb is a name for Lesser Celandine, a pretty yellow spring flower native to the British Isles. An extract from the root is used to make this medicine.

What is Hamamelis bark?

Witch hazel is a tree that is native to southern North America and now grown in Britain. Powder from the sustainably harvested bark is used in this medicine.

What is zinc oxide?

Zinc oxide is an inorganic non-toxic compound made from oxidizing zinc, a naturally occurring metal. It has been used in traditional medicine since the ancient Greeks, as recorded by the Greek physician Dioscorides (40-90 AD).

What is Tea Tree leaf oil?

Tea tree is a native Australian tree with spikes of white flowers and narrow leaves. An essential oil extracted from the leaves is used in this medicine.
