1.    What Procyclidine Tablets areand whatthey are usedfor

Procyclidine belongs to a group of medicines called antimuscarinics (anticholinergics). It is most commonly used for Parkinson's disease or symptoms(parkinsonism) dueto othercauses, includingdrug induced parkinsonism.

2.    BEFORE YOU TAKE PROCYCLIDINE TABLETS Do nottake ProcyclidineTablets ifyou:

*    are hypersensitive (allergic) to procyclidine orany ofthe other ingredients in Procyclidine Tablets.

*    have an obstruction ofthe intestineand/orstomach

*    have difficulty urinating

*    sufferfromglaucoma(eyediseasecausedbytoomuchpressurewithintheeye).

TakespecialcarewithProcyclidineTablets:

Ifyou havehadanyofthefollowingyoushouldtellyourdoctorbeforetakingthismedicine:

*    pregnantormaybecome pregnant, orbreast-feeding.

*    chronickidneyorliverdisease

*    difficultypassingwater,which in some men may beduetoan enlarged prostate.

*    suffer from a movement disorder called tardive dyskinesia, in which movements (especially of the limbs) are slow or difficult, or uncontrolled andjerky.Thiscondition may be madeworse ifyou aregiven procyclidinewhilstbeingtreatedwith neurolepticdrugs.

*    Ifyouareelderly,yourdosemayneedtobecarefullymonitoredtopreventanysideeffects.

Takingothermedicines:

Iftaken with some other medicines the effects of Procyclidine Tablets orthe effects of other medicines may be changed. Please check with your doctorifyouaretakinganyofthefollowing:

*    antihistamines

*    antidepressants

*    phenothiazines (formental illness)

*    Amantadineorlevodopa (used in Parkinson'sdiseaseorsomeviral infections)

*    Ketoconazole(usedforfungalinfectionssuchasathlete'sfootorthrush)

*    Quinidineordisopyramide (usedforconditionsofthe heart)

*    Tacrine(fortreatingsymptomsofAlzheimer'sdisease)

Takingwithfoodanddrink:

Swallowthetabletswith a littlewateraftermeals.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding:

Askyourdoctororpharmacistforadvice beforetaking any medicine ifyou are pregnant, planning on becoming pregnantorare breast-feeding. Drivingandusingmachinery:

DonotdriveoroperatemachineryasProcyclidineTabletsmaymakeyoufeeldizzy, confused,disorientatedoraffectyoureyesight.

Important informationabout some ofthe ingredients in ProcyclidineTablets:

If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars as these tablets contain lactose, contact your doctor before takingthismedicinalproduct.

3.    Howtotake ProcyclidineTablets

Alwaystake ProcyclidineTablets exactly asyourdoctorhastoldyouto.You should checkwithyourdoctororpharmacist ifyou are notsure.

Adults:

The usual dose is between 2 and 6tablets a day, depending on yourcondition and howyou respond. Thetablets should be taken in3or4 divided doses, after meals with a little water. Your doctor will usually start you on a low dose and increase it slowly (every day or every few days) to the bestdoseforyou.

Children:

ProcyclidineTabletsare not recommendedforuse in children.

Ifyoutake more ProcyclidineTabletsthanyoushould:

An overdose of this medicine may be harmful. If you or someone else, have taken too much of your medicine tell your doctor or pharmacist, orgotothe nearesthospital casualtydepartmentimmediately.

Ifyouforget to take ProcyclidineTablets:

If you forget to take a dose at the right time, take it as soon as you remember, then go on as before. Do not take a double dose to make up for the forgotten dose.

Ifyou stop taking Procyclidine Tablets:

You should finish all the tablets your doctor has prescribed even if you feel better. You should still take all the tablets you have been given, itmay bedangeroustostoptakingthemedicinewithoutyourdoctor's advice.

4.    Possibleside effects

LikeallmedicinesProcyclidineTabletscancausesideeffects,althoughnoteverybodygetsthem.

If you are also taking medicines for schizophrenia, mania or mental conditions, you may experience uncontrolled jerky movements of your limbs when you first start to take procyclidine tablets. If this happens talk to your doctor immediately - it may be necessary for your doctor toreducethedoseofyourothermedicine.

Otherunwanted sideeffectsmayinclude:

Commonly occurring sideeffects include:

*    Dry mouth

*    Blurredvision

*    Constipation

*    Urinary retention

Othersideeffectswhich occurlessfrequentlyinclude:

*    Nausea

*    Vomiting

*    Gingivitis (inflammation ofthegums)

*    Skin rashes

*    Feelingnervous

*    Stomach upsets

Sideeffectsthathave been reported on rareoccasions:

*    Psychotic-likesymptoms (e.g. hallucinationsorpersonalitychanges)

Higher doses of procyclidine may cause disorientation, anxiety, agitation, dizziness, confusion or hallucinations and may affect your mental processesormemory.

Ifanyofthesideeffectsgetsserious,orifyounoticeanysideeffectsnotlistedinthisleaflet,pleasetellyourdoctororpharmacist.

5.    Howto store Procyclidine Tablets Keepoutofthe reach and sightofchildren.

Do not store these tablets above 25°C.

Do notuse ProcyclidineTablets aftertheexpirydatewhich isstated onthecarton. Theexpirydate referstothe lastdayofthe month. Storethemintheoriginalcontainertoprotectfromlight.

Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measureswill helpto protecttheenvironment.

Thesetabletscontain5mgoftheactiveingredientProcyclidineHydrochloride.

Thetabletsalsocontain maizestarch, magnesium stearateand anhydrouslactose. WhatProcyclidineTabletslooklikeandthecontentsofthepack:

Thetabletsarewhite,with 'PR5'on onesideand a breaklineontheother.

ProcyclidineTabletsare available in packsof28,84,100and 500tablets.

Notall packsizes may be marketed.
