This product also contains:

Rectified spirit (96% ethanol), water This product comes in a glass bottle of 100 ml or 200 ml with a child-resistant safety cap. It contains a brown liquid.

1.    WHAT THIS PRODUCT IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR

Napiers Valerian Tincture is a traditional herbal medicinal product containing Valerian root. For full details see Section 6.

Napiers Valerian Tincture is a traditional herbal medicinal product used to aid sleep and for the temporary relief of the symptoms of mild anxiety, based on traditional use only.

2.    BEFORE YOU TAKE THIS PRODUCT

Do not take this product if you:

•    are under 18 years old

•    have a hypersensitivity to Valerian root

•    are allergic to any of the ingredients

•    are pregnant or breastfeeding

•    have liver disease or epilepsy

•    are already taking a medicine for sleep or anxiety

•    are taking medicines known to interact with alcohol, e.g. metronidazole

Important information about some of the ingredients in this medicine

The effects of this product may be increased by alcohol. Avoid excessive use of alcohol.

This product contains 21 % v/v ethanol (alcohol), i.e. up to 840 mg per dose, equivalent to 21 ml beer or 8.75 ml wine per dose. Harmful for those suffering from alcoholism.

Driving and using machines This product may cause drowsiness. If you are affected do not drive or operate machines.

3. HOW TO TAKE THIS PRODUCT

For oral use only. For adults and the elderly.

To relieve the symptoms of mild anxiety: Take one 5ml teaspoonful in water or fruit juice when necessary, up to three times a day.

To aid sleep: Take one 5ml teaspoonful in water or fruit juice half to one hour before bedtime, with an earlier dose during the evening if necessary.

As the effects of this product may not occur immediately, it should be taken continuously for 2-4 weeks.

Maximum daily dose: 4 single doses Do not exceed the recommended dose.

If your symptoms continue after 4 weeks or worsen, tell your doctor, pharmacist or qualified healthcare practitioner.

If you take too much (overdose).

If you take more than the recommended dose, speak to a doctor, pharmacist or qualified healthcare practitioner and take this leaflet with you.

Overdose of this product may result in alcohol intoxication and should be treated accordingly.

If you forget to take this product

Continue to take your usual dose at the usual time. Do not take a double dose. It does not matter if you miss a dose.

If you have any questions, or are unsure of anything, please speak to your doctor, pharmacist or qualified healthcare practitioner.

4.    POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS

Like all medicines, this product can have side effects. Possible side effects are:

•    drowsiness

•    nausea

•    abdominal cramp

If you notice any other side effect with this medicine, speak to your doctor, pharmacist or qualified healthcare practitioner.

5.    HOW TO STORE THIS PRODUCT

Do not use this product after the expiry date. The expiry date is printed on the label and on the bottom of the carton.

This product does not require any special storage conditions.

There are no special precautions for disposal.

Keep this product out of the reach and sight of children.
