Read all of this leaflet carefully because it contains important information for you.

This medicine is available without prescription. Nevertheless, you still need to use this product carefully to get the best results from it. Keep this leaflet, you may need to read it again. Ask your pharmacist if you need more information or advice. You must see a doctor if your symptoms worsen or do not improve.

1.    What is in this medicine?

The product is a red/blue capsule. Each capsule contains the active ingredients: paracetamol 500 mg, caffeine 25 mg and phenylephrine hydrochloride 6.1 mg.

They also contain: maize starch, croscarmellose sodium, sodium laurilsulfate, magnesium stearate and talc.

The capsule shell is made of gelatin and contains the colours Indigo Carmine (E132) Patent Blue V (E131) Quinoline Yellow (E104), erythrosine (E127) and titanium dioxide (E171).

These capsules are available in a pack size of 16's (GSL - General Sales List).

3.    What type of drugs are paracetamol, caffeine & phenylephrine hydrochloride?

Paracetamol is a pain reliever and antipyretic (reduces temperature/fever), caffeine is included as it helps increase the pain relief, and phenylephrine hydrochloride is a decongestant to help you breathe more easily.

4.    What are your capsules used for?

Your capsules are used for the relief of symptoms associated with the pain and congestion of sinusitis, including aches and pains, headache, nasal congestion (blocked nose) and feverishness.

5.    Is this medicine suitable for you?

You should not take these if:-

•    you are allergic to paracetamol, caffeine, phenylephrine hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients

•    you suffer from severe heart disease, high blood pressure or circulatory problems

•    you have a history of stomach ulcers

•    you have an overactive thyroid

•    you are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors for depression, or have taken them within the last 14 days

•    you have alcohol dependence

•    you are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless advised by your doctor Please see your doctor if:-

•    you suffer from kidney or liver problems, including alcoholic liver disease

•    you have diabetes

•    you have a condition called Raynaud’s Phenomenon (which results from poor circulation in the fingers and toes)

6.    What if I am taking other medicines?


Make sure that you tell your doctor or pharmacist about any other medicines that you are taking, particularly the following:

•    Metoclopramide or domperidone (to treat nausea and vomiting)

•    Colestyramine (to reduce blood cholesterol levels)

•    Warfarin or other anticoagulants (used to thin the blood)

Note: You can take occasional doses of these capsules, while you are taking warfarin or other anticoagulants, but you should discuss this with your doctor first.

•    Barbiturates, tricyclic antidepressants, alcohol

•    Medicines to lower blood pressure

•    Other decongestants

Important: This medicine contains paracetamol. Do not take with any other paracetamol-containing products.

7.    Directions for use

For oral use. Swallow the capsules whole with water. Do not chew.

8.    Dosage

Adults and children over 12 years:

2 capsules every 4 hours, as required. Do not take more than 8 capsules (4 doses) in any 24 hours.

Children 6 to 12 years:

1 capsule every 4 hours, as required. Do not take more than 4 capsules (4 doses) in any 24 hours.

Do not give to children under 6 years.

Do not exceed the stated dose. If symptoms persist consult your doctor.

9.    What should you do if you take too many capsules or miss a dose?

Immediate medical advice should be sought in the event of an overdose, even if you feel well, because of the risk of delayed, serious liver damage. If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember, but do not double up the next dose to compensate. If you need further advice on how to take this product, see your doctor or pharmacist.

10.    Possible side-effects

Most people do not have any side-effects while taking this medicine. However, if you experience any of the following side-effects, or anything else unusual happens, stop taking the medicine immediately, and see your doctor or pharmacist. Rare side-effects are:

•    Allergic type reactions such as skin rash

•    Nausea, vomiting, headache or difficulty in sleeping

•    Fast, slow or irregular heart beat, high blood pressure, tingling or coolness of the skin More rarely, the following side-effects can happen:

•    You may become more prone to bleeding, bruising, fever and infections, such as sore throat and ulcers, due to changes in your blood

11.    Storage precautions

•    Do not use these capsules after the expiry date printed on the pack. Keep the capsules in the original pack.

•    Do not store above 25°C

•    Keep all medicines out of the reach and sight of children
