4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS:

Like all medicines this product can cause side effects, but not everyone gets them.

If any of the following or other side effects occur, including allergic reactions, stop taking this product and consult your doctor or pharmacist:

•    Lobelia can cause similar side effects to nicotine including nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, coughing, tremors and dizziness.

•    Allergic reaction including contact dermatitis may occur after ingesting White Horehound. The freguency is not known.

•    Sguill may cause gastric irritation.

The freguency is not known.

If other adverse reactions occur, a doctor or a gualified healthcare practitioner should be consulted.

5.    HOW TO STORE POTTER'S CHEST MIXTURE:

Keep out of the reach and sight of children.

Do not use Potter's Chest Mixture after the expiry date. The expiry date is printed on the label and base of the carton.

Do not store above 25°C. Store in the original packaging.

Return any unused medicine to your pharmacist for safe disposal.

6.    FURTHER INFORMATION:

Each 5 ml of oral liguid contains:

0.0144 ml Liguid Extract Lobelia Herb (bbelia inflata L.) (1.1) (eguivalent to 1.44 mg Lobelia Herb)

Extraction Solvent: Ethanol 50% v/v 0.085 ml Liguid Extract White Horehound Herb (Marrubium vulgare L.) (1:1) (eguivalent to 85 mg White Horehound Herb) Extraction Solvent: Water 0.06 ml Liguid Extract Senega Root (Polygalasenega L.) (1:1) (eguivalent to 60 mg Senega Root)

Extraction Solvent: Ethanol 60% v/v 0.06 ml Liguid Extract Indian Sguill bulb (Drimiaindica (Roxb.) JP Jessop) (1:10) (eguivalent to 6 mg Indian Sguill). Extraction Solvent: Acetic Acid 6% v/v.


This product also contains:

Ethanol, Syrup (Sucrose), Glycerol, Quillaia Tincture Special (Quillaia Bark, Water Ethanol), Fluid Extract Wild Cherry (Wild Cherry Bark, Water, Ethanol), Capsicum Tincture (Capsicum Oleoresin, Water, Ethanol), Beetroot Powder (E162), Viscarin (Carrageenan, Glucose (Dextrose)), Star Anise Oil, Water, Acetic Acid.

Potter's Chest Mixture is a dark reddish brown liquid and is available in a 150 ml bottle.

1. WHAT POTTER'S CHEST MIXTURE IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR:

Potter's Chest Mixture is a traditional herbal medicinal product used for the symptomatic relief of chesty coughs and catarrh of the throat and chest, based on traditional use only. For full details, see Section 6.

Do not take Potter's Chest Mixture:

•    if you are allergic to any of the ingredients

•    if you are pregnant or breastfeeding

•    if you are under 12 years of age

•    if you are taking medicines known to interact with alcohol e.g. metronidazole

•    if you have a heart condition

•    if you have obstruction or inflammation (cholangitis) of the bile duct, liver disease or intestinal obstruction (ileus)

•    with digoxin or any medicine for heart conditions.

Talk to your doctor before taking this product if you have:

An active peptic ulcer, gall stones or any other disorder affecting the bile ducts.

Taking other medicines:

Please ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.

This product should not be taken with digoxin or any medicine for heart conditions.

Driving and using machines:

This product contains Ethanol (Alcohol) and therefore it is advised that you do not take this medicine if you are going to drive or use machinery.

Important information about some of the ingredients of Potter's Chest Mixture:

This product contains Syrup (Sucrose) and Glucose (dextrose). If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.

This product also contains 10% v/v Ethanol (Alcohol), i.e. up to 400 mg per dose (5 ml), eguivalent to 10 ml beer or 4.2 ml wine per dose. It may be harmful for those suffering from alcoholism and high-risk groups such as pregnant or breastfeeding women, children and patients with liver disease or epilepsy.

It also contains the preservative Methyl Hydroxybenzoate E218 and Propyl Hydroxybenzoate E216 which may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed).

It is important that you follow the instructions carefully.

Shake the bottle well before use.

For oral use.

Adults, the elderly and children over 12 years:

One 5 ml teaspoonful every three hours, up to a maximum of 4 doses per day.

Not recommended for children under the age of 12 years.

If your symptoms persist or if your condition worsens after 7 days consult your doctor or pharmacist.

If you experience shortness of breath, high temperature or yellow, green or blood stained sputum, consult your doctor.

If you take too much Potter's Chest Mixture:

Do not take more than the stated dose.

If you take too many doses, stop taking the medicine and contact a doctor or pharmacist. If you forget to take Potter's Chest Mixture:

If you miss a dose, take your next dose at the usual time. Do not take two doses at the same time to make up for a missed dose. Always consult your doctor or pharmacist if you need further advice.
