This medicine is available without a prescription. However, you still need to take Puncto Ginkgo carefully to get the best results from it.

1.    What Puncto Ginkgo is and what it is used for

This product is a traditional herbal medicinal product containing Ginkgo biloba leaf extract. Puncto Ginkgo Oral Drops are used to relieve the symptoms of tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and Raynaud's syndrome, based on traditional use only.

Raynaud's syndrome can cause symptoms such as cold hands and feet, or pain, tingling, numbness and your skin turning white in the fingers or toes. These symptoms are caused by interruptions in the blood supply to these areas.

2.    Before you take Puncto Ginkgo

Do not take Puncto Ginkgo

•    If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Ginkgo products or any of the ingredients in your medicine (see section 6: Further information).

•    If you are under 18 years of age

Take special care with Puncto Ginkgo

If your symptoms worsen or persist after taking this product for 4 weeks, you should consult your doctor or a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Tell your doctor before taking this medicine if:

•    You have been told by your doctor that you have a bleeding disorder. This means you may bleed for longer than is normal.

•    You are due to have an operation in the next 14 days.

•    You are taking a medicine called a proton-pump inhibitor (PPI), an anticoagulant, non-steroidal antiinflammatory drug, phenytoin or valproic acid (see Taking other medicines).

•    you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars because this medicine contains dehydrated glucose syrup.

Taking other medicines

Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, or have recently taken any other medicines. This includes any medicines which you have bought without a prescription. This is because Ginkgo may affect the way some medicines work.

Do not take this medicine before talking to your doctor if:

•    You are taking a proton-pump inhibitor (e.g. omeprazole, pantoprazole)

•    You are taking an anticoagulant (e.g. warfarin, heparin)

•    You are taking a non-steroidal antiinflammatory drug (e.g. aspirin, ibuprofen, diclofenac)

•    You are taking phenytoin or valproic acid.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Driving and using machines

There are no known effects on the ability to drive and use machines. However if you are affected, do not drive or use machines.

3. How to take Puncto Ginkgo

Always use Puncto Ginkgo exactly as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor or qualified healthcare practitioner if you are not sure.

How much Puncto Ginkgo to take

Remember to take this medicine either undiluted or in a glass of water.

Adults, and the elderly

For oral use only. Take 20-40 drops 3 times each day. Do not exceed the stated dose.

If you take more Puncto Ginkgo than you should

If you accidentally take too much and feel ill, consult your doctor, pharmacist or qualified healthcare practitioner and take this leaflet with you.

If you forget to take Puncto Ginkgo

Never take a double dose to make up for a missed dose. Take the next dose at the usual time. It does not matter if you have missed a dose.

If you have any further questions about taking this medicine, please ask your doctor, qualified healthcare practitioner or pharmacist.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, Puncto Ginkgo can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

The frequency of the following is not known.

If you get the following effects, seek medical help immediately:

•    Severe blistering of the skin and mucous membranes (Stevens-Johnson syndrome).

•    Bleeding disorders.

These effects have occurred after the use of Ginkgo extracts. However it is not known if they were caused by Ginkgo.

Stop taking the medicine and see your doctor if you experience allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching (pruritis) or you have trouble breathing.

Other possible side effects include headache, feeling sick (nausea) and digestive upsets such as sickness or diarrhoea. These effects should not last long. If they persist or become troublesome, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

If any of the side effects become serious, or you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, tell your doctor or pharmacist.

5. How to store Puncto Ginkgo

Keep out of the reach and the sight of children.

Do not use the tablets after the expiry date on the carton and the blister strip. The expiry date is the last day of that month.

Do not store above 30°C. Store in the original package.

Medicines should not be thrown away in waste water or in household waste. Please ask your pharmacist how to throw away any medicine you do not need anymore. If you do this you will help protect the environment.

6. Further Information

What Puncto Ginkgo contains

The active ingredient in each tablet is:

40 mg of extract (as dry extract) from Ginkgo biloba L. leaf (35-67:1). Extraction solvent: Acetone 60% v/v.

The other ingredients are:

Extract excipient: dehydrated glucose syrup. Oral drops: propylene glycol, glycerol 85 %, saccharin sodium, purified water. 1 ml of the oral drops contains 2 mg dehydrated glucose syrup.

What Puncto Ginkgo looks like and contents of the pack

Puncto Ginkgo is a clear brown solution.

Puncto Ginkgo comes in a brown glass bottle of 100 ml or 200 ml (2x 100 ml). Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
