I .What TCP Antisepctic Ointment is and what it is used for
TCP Antiseptic Ointment is an antiseptic combined with other ingredients that give effective relief from skin irritations. It quickly soothes local pain and itching and kills germs on the skin.
TCP Antiseptic Ointment is used to treat piles, give relief from skin irritation or itching including the area around the vagina and anus (the area around the back passage), cuts,grazes, minor wounds, minor burns and scalds, insect bites and stings and spots and pimples.
2. What you need to know before you useTCP Antiseptic Ointment Do not useTCP Antiseptic Ointment:
• If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to any of the ingredeints of TCP Antiseptic Ointment (see section 6).
•You have an allergic skin disease such as eczema.
• If you have had an allergic reaction to any other TCP product.
•TCP Antiseptic Ointment contains salicylic acid which may cause mild skin irritation in some people. Warnings and precautions
If symptoms persist, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Other medicines and TCP Antiseptic ointment
TCP Antiseptic Ointment is not known to interfere with other medicince, but if you are in doubt please speak to your doctor or pharmacist.
Pregnancyand breast-feeding
There is no experience in the use of the product in pregnancy and lactation, but the product has been widely used over many years with no reported adverse effect.
3. How to useTCP Antiseptic Ointment
Not to be swallowed. For external use only.
To pierce tube, remove the cap and reverse it over the nozzle, push firmly and turn.
Wash your hands after use.TCP Antiseptic Ointment may tarnish jewellery and stain fabrics.
Always useTCP Antiseptic Ointment exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist have told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
Patient Information Leaflet
Piles: Wash the affected area with cool water only and dry thoroughly. Apply freely night and morning to the affected area. Consult your doctor about your piles in case you have a condition that needs diagnosis and different treatment. Constipation should be prevented or treated if present.
Itching: Pruritus is persistent recurring itching of the skin. It may occur on any part of the body, but probably the most distressing forms are around the outside of the vagina in women and around the anus (back passage) in both sexes.Wash the affected area and dry thoroughly. Apply freely to the affected area. If treating itching around the anus, apply after a bowel movement. Consult your doctor if the itching does not improve or reoccurs as it may be a symptom of an illness or condition that needs other treatment.TCP Antiseptic Ointment may stain underwear.
Cuts, Grazes, Minor Wounds and Skin Irritation: Wash the affected area with warm water and dry carefully. Apply to the affected area preferably on a piece of lint or gauze to soothe, protect and help promote healing. Minor Burns and Scalds: Apply the ointment quickly and freely, repeat as required to help relieve pain and irritation.
Insect Bites and Stings: Apply the ointment quickly, repeat as required to help relieve pain and irritation. Spots and Pimples: Wash with hot water and dry thoroughly. Apply the ointment thinly morning and evening until the skin has cleared.
If the condition doesn't improve or becomes worse, talk to your doctor, nurse or pharmacist.
If you useTCP Antiseptic Ointment more than you should
Using too much cream will not cause harm.Wipe off excess ointment with a tissue. If the ointment is accidentally swallowed, tell your doctor immediately, or go to the Accident and Emergency department of your nearest hospital.
If you forget to useTCP Antiseptic Ointment
Use the ointment when needed.
4. Possible side effects
No side effects have been reported with TCP Antiseptic Ointment.
If you feel any side effects or unwell after using TCP Antiseptic Ointment, tell your doctor or pharmacist straightaway.
5. How to store TCP Antiseptic Ointment
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Do not store above 25°C.
Do not useTCP Antiseptic Ointment after the date (month and year) printed after "EXP" on the box and tube. If the expiry date has passed, take the product back to your pharmacist for safe disposal. Do not put it in your household waste.
6. Contents of the pack and other information What TCP Antiseptic Ointment contains
Active substances:
TCP Liquid Antiseptic 6.4% w/w, iodine 0.2% w/w, methyl salicylate 1.3% w/w, precipitated sulphur 1.5% w/w, tannic acid 0.4% w/w, camphor 1.3% w/w and salicylic acid 0.4% w/w.
TCP Liquid Antiseptic is an aqueous solution of phenol 0.175% w/v, halogenated phenols 0.68% w/v and sodium salicylate 0.052% w/v.
Other ingredients:
Clove oil, potassium iodide, citric acid powder, disodium edetate, glycerol, kaolin, hydrochloric acid, yellow soft paraffin and water.
What TCP Antiseptic Ointment looks like and contents of the pack
TCP Antiseptic Ointment is a deep yellow ointment. Each tube contains either 14 g or 30 g ointment.
