Do not take Vicks Cough Syrup with Honey for Dry Coughs if you:

are allergic to dextromethorphan or other

ingredients (see section 6)

have severe liver disease

have a productive cough - (coughing produces

mucus/phlegm).

are taking medicines called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs - a type of antidepressant) or have taken them in the last 14 days. or are taking selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs)_

1. What Vicks Cough Syrup with Honey for Dry Coughs is and what it is used for.

Vicks Cough Syrup with Honey for Dry Coughs contains the active ingredient Dextromethorphan hydrobromide which suppresses a cough by acting on the cough centre of the brain. The syrup works by calming a dry cough and soothing and coating your throat.

This medicine is available without prescription. However, you still need to take Vicks Cough Syrup with Honey for Dry Coughs carefully to get the best results from it.

O Do not give Vicks Cough Syrup with Honey for Dry Coughs to children under 6 years of age.

OTake special care with Vicks Cough Syrup with Honey for Dry Coughs

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if you:

•    have asthma

•    you have ever had liver problems

•    are diabetic or have difficulty digesting some sugars

OTaking other medicines

Do not take Vicks Cough Syrup with Honey for Dry Coughs if you are taking medicine for depression or Parkinson's disease called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or have done so in the last 14 days.

O Pregnancy and breast-feeding

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this product if you are pregnant or breast feeding.

-    You must contact a doctor if your symptoms worsen or do not improve.

O Driving and using machines

There is no evidence that the active ingredient will affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. It should be noted that this product contains a small amount of alcohol.

O Important information about some of the ingredients of Vicks Cough Syrup with Honey for Dry Coughs

This medicine contains:

•    5.2% vol. alcohol (ethanol). Each 15 ml adult dose contains approximately 0.63g of alcohol. This is roughly the same as 6.5 ml of wine (standard measure = 125 ml). This may be harmful to those suffering from alcoholism. To be taken into consideration by pregnant or breast feeding women, children and high risk groups such as patients with liver disease or epilepsy.

   sugar (sucrose) - Each 15 ml adult dose contains 5.55 g of sucrose. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, consult your doctor before taking this medicinal product.

3. How to take Vicks Cough Syrup with Honey for Dry Coughs

Always take Vicks Cough Syrup with Honey for Dry Coughs exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you; check with them if you are not sure about anything.

O Dosage:

This syrup is to be taken by mouth.

Shake well before use.

Adults and children over 12 years:

3 x 5ml teaspoons of syrup.

Children 6-12 years: 1 x 5ml teaspoons of syrup. Children of 6-12 years of age: not to be used for more than 5 days without the advice of a doctor, seek medical attention if the child's condition deteriorates during treatment.

Repeat the dose every 6 hours if required.

Do not take more than 4 doses in 24 hours.

Do not give this medicine to children under 6 years of age

Do not exceed the recommended dose.

If symptoms persist, speak to your pharmacist or doctor.

Keep out of reach and sight of children

O If you take more Vicks Cough Syrup with Honey for Dry Coughs than you should

Seek medical advice immediately if you

accidentally take more syrup than you should or give a child more syrup than is recommended.

If you forget to take Vicks Cough Syrup with Honey for Dry Coughs

If you accidentally miss a dose, do not take a double dose; just take the next dose as normal.

If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your pharmacist.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, Vicks Cough Syrup with Honey for Dry Coughs can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.

These may include:

•    Dizziness, drowsiness

•    Stomach upsets (nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea)

•    Skin rashes

O If any side effects you experience become serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist.

O Taking this product with alcohol may increase the likelihood of side effects.

5. How to store Vicks Cough Syrup with Honey for Dry Coughs

Keep out of the reach and sight of children.

Store below 25°C.

Do not take Vicks Cough Syrup with Honey for Dry Coughs after the expiry date which is printed on the bottle or carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month stated.

Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required.

These measures will help to protect the environment.

What Vicks Cough Syrup with Honey for Dry Coughs contains

Each 15ml adult dose contains the active ingredient: dextromethorphan hydrobromide 20 mg

The other ingredients are: water, sucrose, propylene glycol, honey, ethanol, sodium citrate, citric acid, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, polyethylene oxide, polyoxyl-40-stearate, sodium benzoate, sodium saccharin, flavouring (honey flavour, menthoxypropanediol, verviene flavour), caramel (see also section 'Important information about some of the ingredients in Vicks Cough Syrup with Honey for Dry Coughs' in section 2).

This pack contains 15, 30, 100, 120, 180 or 250 ml of syrup in a brown glass bottle. (Not all pack sizes are marketed).
