Emulsifying Ointment BP 100g

Emulsifying Ointment is a semi-opaque waxy ointment, used in the pharmacy as an ingredient in the preparation of Aqueous Cream and Buffered Cream.

Do not use if you are allergic to any of the ingredients of this product.

Take special care This product (which contains cetostearyl alcohol and sodium lauryl sulphate) may cause local skin reactions (e.g. stinging, burning, itching, redness, and contact dermatitis) particularly in children with atopic eczema. This product has been found to have major sunscreen activities and should not be used before light treatments (phototherapy) or phototesting.

Pregnancy: The safety of Emulsifying Ointment during pregnancy and breast-feeding has not been established. Discuss with your doctor.

How to use Emulsifying Ointment: information will be provided with the final preparation. Caution: This preparation may make skin and surfaces slippery particularly when having a bath or shower.

If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your pharmacist or doctor.

If you use more than you should, or if the product is accidentally swallowed:

Contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

Side effects Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects although not everybody gets them. Side effects include occasional allergic reaction, acne, inflammation or infection of hair follicles (folliculitis), stinging, burning, itching, redness, contact dermatitis and rash.

Reporting of side effects: If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet. You can also report side effects directly via the Yellow Card Scheme at www.mhra.gov.uk/yellowcard. By reporting side effects you can help provide more information on the safety of this medicine.

Storing Emulsifying Ointment: Keep out of the sight and reach of children. Store below 25°C.

Do not freeze. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the label. Your pharmacist will dispose of any unused cream.

WARNING: If this product comes into contact with dressing and clothing, the fabric can be easily ignited with a naked flame. You should keep away from the fire and do not smoke when using this product.

Emulsifying ointment contains: Emulsifying wax 30% w/w, white soft paraffin 50% w/w and liquid paraffin 20% w/w.
