EMULSIFYING OINTMENT BP

Emulsifying Wax 30% w/w, Paraffin Soft White 50% w/w and Liquid Paraffin 20% w/w

This medicine is available without prescription. However, you still need to use Emulsifying Ointment BP carefully to get the best results from it.

1.    WHAT EMULSIFYING OINTMENT IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR

The name of your medicine is Emulsifying Ointment BP. It contains the active ingredient Emulsifying Wax, Paraffin Soft White and Liquid Paraffin.

It is used as an emollient in the management of dry skin including chronic eczema, as a soap substitute and as a vehicle for medications.

2.    BEFORE YOU USE EMULSIFYING OINTMENT

Do not use Emulsifying Ointment if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Emulsifying Wax, Paraffin Soft White and Liquid Paraffin or any of the other ingredients. See section 6.

Take special care with Emulsifying Ointment

If this product comes into contact with dressings and clothing the fabric can be easily ignited with a naked flame. You should keep away from fire when using this product.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant or breast-feeding please consult your doctor or pharmacist before use.

Using other medicines

Please consult your pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any medicines, including medicines obtained without prescription. Emulsifying Ointment may react with other medicines and products.

3. HOW TO USE EMULSIFYING OINTMENT

Follow the directions on this package leaflet or pack carefully, and ask your pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand.

For external use only.

Use a an emollient:

For Adult, the Elderly and Children: Apply to the affected area one to three times daily until an improvement occurs.

Use as vehicle for other medications

Dosage as indicated by the dispensing pharmacist.

If you accidentally swallowed Emulsifying Ointment or use more than you should, please consult your doctor or pharmacist.

4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS

Like all medicines, Emulsifying Ointment can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Very serious side effects -if any of the following happens, stop using Emulsifying Ointment and tell your doctor immediately or go to the nearest hospital emergency department:

• allergic (hypersensitivity) reactions

If any of the side effects gets serious or if you notice any side effect not listed here, please tell your doctor or pharmacist.

5.    HOW TO STORE EMULSIFYING OINTMENT

Keep out of the reach and sight of children.

Keep the container tightly closed. Do not store above 25°C.

Do not use Emulsifying Ointment after the expiry date which is stated on the label. The expiry date refers to the last date of that month.

Emulsifying Ointment should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of this product when no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

There are three active substances in Emulsifying Ointment:

Emulsifying Ointment is a smooth, homogeneous, colourless ointment and comes in Plastic Opaque containers and lids in pack size of 500g.
